GAETI 2017 Beverlee Jackson

Today was wonderful! It was the last day but it was a wonderful day! I will use sparks adobe in my class and my children will love it. I appreciate the teachers they have taught me so much that I am excited and ready to take it back to my class. I would like to thank everybody that was in the workshop and I wish them well. Also, thank you for the awards and May God Bless You!

Today in GAETI, we started off with presentation from each students about their art project. It was wonderful, everybody had beautiful art work. Then we went to the computer room and worked on our weebly website. We had to make sure we had all our components in it. It was good day.

Today in GAETI we talked about creating a business plan. The CD did not work and we just discuss some business strategies. Then we worked on our weebly and after lunch we listen to a speaker talk about wellness. It was the best presentation and I enjoyed it. I am going to take that information and use it for my health. Lastly we did a video with Dr. B with a person from Brazil it was good. We asked questions an the answers were good.

Today in GAETI we learned how to create a story using Piktochart. It was fun and I would use it in my class. It was easy and user friendly for the students. I will have to make sure that I go back over the instruction and know the ups and own. Then we created a story in adobe spark which consisted of us talking through our head phones. I am going to have to make sure that I ask my CTC director can I get some headphones with microphones. The students will enjoy this and would love making videos. After lunch I finished up my weebly page by completing my lesson plan which took some time. Then we went to the library and learned about prezi and it was another way to create slides. Today in GAETI we went over a lot of technology that I would use in my class. The young lady that talked to us about using laptops in class and some apps for and it was good. I think I am going to show my students how to use the apps using the computers. I will have to make sure that I set rules on using the apps. Then we created a story using adobe spark. I will use that in my class so my students can do a story about themselves. After lunch we had to explain about our art work through word. In the evening as a group we created a newspaper where we had to find 2 articles  for our paper and we did ours on Technology. Then we worked on the weebly page and I need to complete my lesson plan to update my page.

Today in GAETI we learned about creating a business. It was a very interesting. It kind of of made me want to start my own business. It seems like a lot of steps, but I think when we go through the disc then it will seemed easier. Then in art I had to glue my glass and I am finish with the project. The rest of the day was spent on working on our website and I almost got finish I have to add some finishing touches to make it better. It was a good day and I enjoyed it. Weebly Start Up

Today in GAETI we learned about different ways to use technology in our classroom. We learned how to use YouTube in our class were we can make a video of our class and then show the students. Also, this morning we finish our video for Dr. B and we won the prize for best video. It was a fun process and if we had the money I would suggest we get it for our school. It would be nice for the students to make a video and present to the students. Then we learned how to make a business plan for a start up business. It was interesting and made me want to start my own business. It was a good day at GAETI and I learned a lot.

Today in GAETI we worked on the computer again. Early this morning we worked on creating a banner for our Canvas page. We used adobe spark to create a banner and it allowed us to change the color and change how the banner look. Also, it allowed us to put a picture behind the banner that dealt with my subject. Then we went to Dr. B class and learned how to use camstasia so we can create our flat Stanley video. It was a leaning experience and we still did not get finish with our video. In art we learned about how to stack our shapes and that was fun also, we did our glass. The last part of the day was on canvas and it was very educational and I will be using it in my class this year.

Today in GAETI was also fun because we worked on computers the majority of the day. In the first part of the day we learned how to make a video in PowerPoint. I have actually used this personally, but never thought to have my students make a video out of PowerPoint. That is something that I might do this year in my class. Next we went to create a another video with flat Stanley. I think this is the most hilariously thing we done all workshop. Going around with a paper cut out and having him visit part of MSU lol. Next in art we finish cutting out our shapes I finally finish yeahhhhhhh!. The last part of the day we worked on a webquest. It was fun until my program stop working and I had to submit a half done webquest, but that something that you have to deal with when it comes to technology.

Today was so much fun, because we spent the majority of the day on the computer. I learned a lot and will use it in my class. The instructor was patient and he made sure that every students was on task. Then we went to art class. That was challenging for me because I am not that expressive with my hand unless it is on the computer. Also, I am not patient and I need to work on that that. The last part of the day was building a website, which I definitely will try to use in my class this upcoming year. It was very interesting and I learned a lot.

Today in GAETI we started the day off in Art it was fun we learned how to cut with and excto knife. You have to take it slowly and and take your time. It is not a hurry process. Then we went to the computer class and learned about how to create board games on excel and power point. It was very educational to me I will defiantly use it in my class. My students can create their own games and play them with other students. Then we had a presenter come in and talk about gameification. It was a good presentation, but it was too much for two hours. He had to rush through the presentation. Then we went to the TK Martin center and that was the most interesting thing to me. I learn some good information for myself to take back to my own house. I also, made some good connections.

We finished up the last part of the UbD lesson plan. We put it altogether and worked on a lesson plan. Then she put us in groups and we had to come up with mini lesson plan. My group member and I did a lesson on Word and we decided what standard to use. Then we came up with the big questions and then we decided what the students will know and how they will get to that point. I like the UbD lesson plan it helps you plan an effective lesson that the students will enjoy along with the teacher. When we finish we went to painting then at the end we did technology tools and how to use them in the classroom.

I would tell my colleges that you have to know where you are going before you can start teaching. Basically develop a lesson plan to discuss what the student will know once they get finish. This will help the students understand what is expected once they finish. It will give them a goal to reach and then you will start telling them or they can develop lessons that would reach that goal. They have to make sure they include all the section of the UBd lesson from start to finish. Establish a goal, what the students will understand, essential questions, performance tasks, other evidence, and then have a learning plan in place. One idea from today that I plan to use is the UBd lesson plan. I actually use it in my curriculum, because when ICT started off that is the design that was used. Also, I like the immediate feedback assessment it can be an easier way to give an immediate feedback to the students.

Day seven was a interesting day. We started the day off by working on the computer which was fun for me. We learned how to do some measurement and time lines concerning the earth. I can use this in my class, but instead of doing it by hand the student would do it on the computer. I would be incorporating History and Science in my class. The students will understand how to do a timeline. Then after lunch we learn how to over lap in drawing and painting to make a picture. That was fun, but we had to be patient because everybody did not finish at the same time. Then we listen to a young man talk about Indians and how as teachers we have to be careful how we teach it to our students. We have to make sure that we do not offend students and students do not disrespect them. We as teacher need to feel that way about what ever we teach. Respect what you teach and how you teach it. If we do that then our students would do the same.

Today in GAETI we went to Hilbun Hall and we did a scavenger hunt. It was very challenging even for a grown person because we had to read to figure out the answers. The students would struggle with this because they do not like to read. As a teacher it could be made fun by having the students work in groups. Then we went into the weather room where we learned how they do the weather on TV. The students will enjoy it because they have never seen a green screen they think the map is pasted on the back of the screen. Then we came back after lunch and learned about painting  and how to put colors on top of each other. Adding light on first then dark was something I never knew and it was enlightening. Once we left we came to the computer room and looked for games that will help us in the class. I learned some new websites that will help me in my class. Also, I learned about other websites from science, history and foreign language so that my students can go to them for review from the

In GAETI today we learned about BYOD. Which means bring your own device. That would not work at my school because we have a no cell phone policy. Also, most of the students would not adhere to the policy if we did allow it. As grown ups we cannot follow instructions about a phone. As far as 1 to 1 I think that is wonderful and our school will be going to it in the next couple of years. It will give the students a chance to have technology at their hands so if they have questions then they can use their Chromebook. Then we had a speaker to come in and she talked to us about 1 to 1 it made it a little more visual and real. We also created a weebly page and the was fun we used this this website in one of my classes but I never understood it, but with the directions she gave I am confident that I can work through the page. Then last part of the day was a spent on us working on files from Dr. B, and E-Portfolio development. Today was a great learning experience and I will use it in my class

Today in GAETI we went to the coal mine. It was interesting learning about what they really did at the coal mine. It open my eyes a little, my preconceive notion was not what I expected. The presenter was fun and he kept my attention. The reclamation process was amazing. They can make the land back new like it was untouched. Given a person back their land just like it was handed to them is great. The last thing we did was an activity that involve clay, sand, gravel and pea gravel. It was fun and if I was and science teacher I would use it in my class. It teaches the students about porosity and permeability. It would be fun, but it could be messy at the same time. Today was really fun. We started off by playing with cookies. We had to extract as many chocolate chips from the chip ahoy's so that we can count the chips. The point of the lab was dealing with coal and how much you can make and lose if it is not done correctly. Our group did really good because we made a profit. The next part of the day was spent in the computer lab. We learned short cuts and various things on PowerPoint. I learned how to use the master slides better and I can teach my students. Also, Dr. B taught us how to make faster PPT. I like that idea for me, but I will not be teaching my students that short cut that can be confusing to them. After lunch we went over google maps and earth. I really enjoyed the instructor he did a good job of explaining how to label your map and maneuver in it. Then we did a tour in the Templeton music room upstairs we learned about different record players and so forth. Once we left the library we did an activity outside and it was interest

Today in GAETI was very interesting. We learned about the earth and all the hemisphere. I never really thought much about them. Also, the activity with the globe was very good and it kept me awake in class. The presenter did a good job of presenting what we needed to know. When we went to the excel activity it was more of a refresher for me because I knew most of the information she was going over. I did learn how to isolate certain numbers in excel and I can use that in my class. The afternoon for GAETI was really fun. I enjoyed creating data and then making a chart with it. I can use that in my class an my students can use critical thinking skills and work on interviewing skills. Also, it would require the students to think about how to use the scientific method which includes science in the lesson. The civil rights presentation needed to be a little more entertaining. I would have preferred to have some videos, conversation instead of a person telling me about civil rights. Lastly,

Today in GAETI was a day of meeting new people and learning new ideas. The day started off with an energize instructor that was very happy and enthused about what she telling us. We also meet other professors that was happy to see us and explained their roll in GAETI.  Then we explored the IED building and took a walk to the library. At the library we learned about MAGNOLIA and how it can be used in the classroom. It was very interesting to me because I can show my students different ways to research. Also, it will give my students a chance to explore some information they might be interested in. In the second half of GAETI I learned about the different standards and how they can be used in English, History, Technology, and Science. In my group we discuss ethics and how to use all the standards that were presented today. My group member gave a website where students can create comic strips free.  I never would have considered using a comic strip to explain ethics. This would keep the s
